Lithium is one of the minerals at the centre of the energy transition. It is a key ingredient in the batteries used in electric vehicles, renewable energy storage and consumer electronics.

What is spodumene?

Spodumene is a lithium-bearing mineral found in hard rock. It is one of the main ores from which lithium is produced, which is why AMEA lists lithium and spodumene together in its portfolio.

Where it appears in AMEA’s titles

The AUNAI Mining Lease covers gold and lithium. Exploration under the Mashegu, Dambam and Suru Exploration Licences has identified spodumene and iron ore deposits.

AMEA’s value-addition strategy includes battery-grade lithium and cobalt processing in Nigeria.

Other battery minerals

Exploration has also identified cobalt and nickel, two further minerals used in battery production. In-country processing of these minerals is part of AMEA’s growth strategy and is not yet in operation.
